Delhi’s Stray Dog Crisis: Supreme Court Order, ABC Program & Humane Solutions 15 Aug 2025 Most existing dog shelters are already operating at full capacity, and there is an urgent need to build new shelters if the Supreme Court decides in favor of sheltering stray dogs. However, in contrast, cities like Dehradun, Jaipur , and others have shown positive results through the Animal Birth Control (ABC) program. If we draw a small conclusion, it could be that new shelters should be built only for dogs from areas that are dangerous for both humans and dogs. Many areas exist where dogs live peacefully without any conflict. It is also important to maintain a certain level of stray dog presence, as they help control rodent populations. A sudden reduction in dogs could lead to both economic and hygiene-related crises if rodent numbers increase. Controlled trials are needed, and dedicated shelters should be built for violent dogs.
